Self-Portrait (Adornment)

PLA plastic, 3D printed plaster, paint, and faux fur fabric

7 x 16 x 16 in.

Adornment presents a departure from handcrafted jewelry as each piece is 3D-printed through an industrial process. Made from inexpensive materials to achieve a luxurious, high-fashion aesthetic, each features the artist's head and is painted in either a lustrous gold or pearl hue. This innovative approach offers commentary on self-idolatry and the democratization of fame in modern society.

In today's world, where fame and adoration are increasingly attainable at a lower cost, some may dismiss this jewelry as lacking authenticity or refinement. However, the project emphasizes the democratization of fame and its implications for society. Echoing Andy Warhol's famous words, "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes," Adornment invites viewers to consider the evolving dynamics of celebrity and self-worth in the modern era, as well as the transformative power of art in challenging preconceived notions of value and authenticity.
