These Jesus statues were cast from one mold, their fabrication similar to a typical method of factory production. “Made in China” tags were submerged in each of the resin casts through a series of layers. Jesus is the singular iconic figure in Christianity, but for the minimum-paid Chinese laborers who make his statues, he is just like any other plastic figure — they do the job for the pay, without the meaning of prayer.
The paint on these casts can be easily scratched off by coins, similar to scratching a lottery ticket. The Chinese yuan coins represent the low wage these workers receive.
