Puzzled Dome
Powder-coated steel, mirror, and shearling fur
Dome 18 x 27 x 29 in., fur 42 x 28 x 1 in.
The multiple personas we take on conceal and reveal parts of ourselves as we adapt to the norm. But in the moments when we let go—allow our ultimate self to shine through and enjoy life—an edgeless universe can be found inside. We experience true freedom. This is the experience of clubbing: getting lost in a multi-sensory experience of light, sound, even touch. Yet the individual empowerment captured in these collective moments is quickly lost once everyone disperses.
This moment is the moment captured in the fractured disco ball turned inside out. The dome is at once blossoming and collapsing; its joints precariously tethered; its reflective surface never fully one or the other. As we face ourselves, alone, Is the environment of escape, here interrupted, a refuge or a cage?
