Toilet paper and ink
Dimensions variable
2022

As social media becomes part of routine life, this piece calls attention to the mindless consumption of information and images on social networks. Just like toilet paper, social media — especially Instagram — is cheap yet wasteful, essential yet worthless. This piece materializes the action of scrolling down Instagram, consuming without acknowledging the quantity of paper expended.

The value of the content created does not always reflect the cost of production, and the fame linked to many “influencers” is as disposable and temporary as the material itself. The mass production and mass consumerism of both the toilet paper and the media content reflect a demand and dependency valued only as mundane products.
